American whaler Java sold at New Bedford, USA according to the Whalemen’s Shipping List dated Tuesday 14 June 1864

An item reported that the bark Java of New Bedford, USA was acquired by Messrs. Charles Hitch&Son. Het new owners also decided to keep her in service as a whaler and she was now fitted out for a sperm whale voyage with as captain Nathan Smith. Smith was the former captain of the bark Newark which was reported as wrecked. She arrived on 13 April that year returning with a catch of 1.050 sperm (oil) and 100 whale (oil).
