Dutch warships Argo, Courier and Venus departed Texel, Netherlands bound for respectively the Dutch East Indies and Surinam according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 8 December 1840

An item reported the departure from Texel, Netherlands on the 3rd of the Dutch corvette Zr.Ms. Argo (1) captain lieutenant Den Berger and the brig Zr.Ms. Courier (2) captain lieutenant Willinck both towards Batavia, Dutch East Indies and the brig Zr.Ms. Venus (3) captain lieutenant Jöhr towards Surinam.

1. Laid down at the navy yard at Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1833, launched on 12 April 1838, target 1851, last mentioned 1854, 900 tons displacement and 32 guns.
2. Also called Courier, brig, on stocks at the navy yard at Vlissingen,  Netherlands by C. Soetermeer on13 June 1835, launched 4 or 5 February 1840, docked at the navy at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands 22-24 May 1844, while condemned tenders asked on 31 March at the navy yard at Vlissingen to break her up 1858, dimensions 31,50 (loadline) x 9,50 (inner hull) x 3,6 (fore)-4,5 (aft) x 4,9 (depth below main deck) metres, 546 tons displacement and an armament of 18 guns (16-30pd carronades,2-6pd guns).

In 1833, launched 23 May 1838, docked at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands 1 December 1845-16 May 1846 and 3 October 1851-afternoon 19 April 1852, free loan to the institute of sailors of the KNZRV at Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1862, stricken 1867, 29,8 (loadline) x 0,2 (inner hull) x 3,4 (fore)-4,5 (aft) x 4,5 (hold below main deck) metres, 565 tons displacement, and an armament of 18 guns (16-30pd carronades, 2-6pd guns).
