French whaler la Ville de Bordeaux active in Australian waters according to the Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant dated 21 january 1841

An item reported that 4 years before the La Ville de Bordeaux captain Largeteau, a beautiful merchant ship fitted out for as a whaler to be active in the Australian waters. Since then there not been any official communication with her owners. They just received information via via that she was still active as a whaler selling train oil in harbours pretending that they needed victuals and other stores. They finally gave an order to hold her when she appeared again. Letters from Nieuw Holland [Australia] reported that when she entered Sydney her captain sold her for just 50.000 or 80.000 francs while the new owner sold her the next day for 240.000 francs. Her crew was in an astonishing condition lacking anything and the citizens were obliged to collect money for them.
