Danish central battery ironclad Odin 1871-1912


Laid down at the naval dockyard at Copenhagen, Denmark on 13 April 1871, launched on 12 December 1872, commissioned on 7 September 1874, decommissioned on 12 June 1912 and broken up. With a displacement of 3.232 tons/3.191 long tons were her dimensions 74,33 x 14,75 x 5,10 metres or 240’1” x 48’5” x 16’4”. The 2.260 ihp/500 nhp horsepower allowed a speed of 12 knots and with a speed of 9 knots and a coal bunker capacity of 1.000 tons pof 300 pond a range of 1.200 nautical miles. Her crew numbered 236 men with an armament consisting of 4 rifled 120pd/10” guns and 6-3”guns. The armour consisted of a 10,2-30,3cm/4”-11.9’ thick belt. a 2,6cm/1.0” thick deck and the battery protected by 17,8cm/7” thick armour. Building costs included armour 2.648.970 crones. Was not rigged, the tow masts were signalling masts.
