German steamship Bienenkorb underway towards the Arctic for whaling, seal hunting and discovery according to the Dutch newspaper Opregte Haarlemsche Courant dated 26 February 1869

An item referred to the recent departure from Bremerhafen, Germany the steamboat Bienenkorb for an discovery voyage lead by Dr. Petermann of Gotha in the Arctic. She was fitted out by Albert Rosenthal of Bremerhafen who was interested in the Arctic and yearly fitted out two steamships for whaling and seal hunting. The first stop would be Jan Mayen island for seal hunting and to end June, begin July starting with her voyage along the east coast of Greenland. The Bienenkorb was a well built screw steamship of 186 lasten and a horsepower of 65 hp especially built for the Arctic. Her captain was Hagens, her crew numbered 55 men and she had for 8 montsh victuals on board.
