Tonga tug Hifofua 1958-

Partly welded, steel built. Launched at the shipyard of Gebroeders Niestern Scheepswerven N.V., Delzijl, Netherlands with yard number 255 for account of Tonga Government, NukuÁlofa, Tonga on Tuesday 12 August and commissioned on 2 December 1958. Main engine in 1958 was a 100hp M.W.M. engine. Speed 12 knots. Bollard pull 6,5 ton maximum. Tonnage 228 gross, net 70 tons, deadweight 127 tons and as dimensions 31,06 (between perpendiculars)-34,93 (over all) x 7,80 x 2,85 x 3,35 (depth) metres. Bale capacity 2.000 cubic feet.

The Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated Wednesday 13 August 1958 reported that she was christened by Miss C. Kamp daughter of the confidant of prince Tungi of Tonga at Groningen, Netherlands. She was to be delivered in October and to be used as a government vessel between the islands around Tonga. Except for the cabin accommodation for 6 passengers was she able to transport a huge number of so-called deck passengers. Another Dutch newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated 20 January 1959 reported that she was underway to her fin al destination. On Sunday a week earlier passed she the Panama canal. Her crew consisted of 5ive Dutchmen including captain A.P. Velinf of Groningen and 3 sailors from New Zealand.
