Italian dredger Tirreno launched at Schiedam, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Schiedamsche Courant dated 23 October 1909

An item reported that a day earlier at the shipyard Gusto (firm A.F. Smulders), Schiedam, Netherlands the steel made hull of the seagoing bucket dredger Tirreno built for account of the Italian government was launched. Dimensions 51,50 x 10,30 x 3,00 (hold) metres. Fitted out with 2x250ihp compound engines each driving one of the two screws when she was moving. For using the bucket ladder was just one engine necessary. Further more were 6 auxiliary engines available for lifting the bucket ladder, anchors, chains and so on. There were 2 boilers with a heating surface of 80 square metres and 8 atmosphere pressure. Theoretical dredging capacity around 500 cubic meters/hour and working depth 15 metres. Built to be used in the harbour of Spezia, Italy.(1)
