French and Italian privateers captured Austrian ships off Lissa according to the Dutch newspaper Amsterdamse courant dated 2 January 1806

An item dated Ancona, Italy 11th December 1805 reported the arrival in the harbour there of the French privateers le Massena captain Bavastro, le Verdier captain Prébois and the Italian privateer le Pinot captain Barthelemy Paul with their prizes consisting of 3 brigs and 2 polacres all Austrian-flagged. The Austrian ships Superbe with 6-8pd guns, Benéfico, Leopold and the Viggilant were both armed with 6-4 pd guns and the Libéral with 4-4pd guns were captured on the 5th off the island Lissa.after a heavy fight; just four names were supplied in the item.
