British screw steam corvette HMS Calliope underway from South Africa towards Singapore according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 29 June 1887

An item dated 27th reported the passing of Nieuw Anjer [nowadays Anyer, Indonesia] by the British war steamship Calliope underway from Cape Town, South Africa towards Singapore.(1)

1. Screw steam corvette launched at the Portsmouth Dockyard on 24 July 1885, drillship for the Royal Navy Reserve since 29 October 1907, renamed Helicon in June 1915, retained her original name in October 1931 and finally sold to be broken up on 4 October 1951.
