An item reported the intended departure on 1 September from Den Helder, Netherlands of the Dutch frigate Zr.Ms. Prins Hendrik der Nederland (1) captain jonkheer H.A. van Karnebeek towards the Dutch East Indies, the corvette Zr.Ms. Sumatra (2) captain lieutenant F.X.R. ‘t Hooft towards the Mediterranean and the schooner Zr. Ms. Atalante (3) lieutenant A. Klerck towards Tenerife, Canary Islands.

1. Frigate 2nd class, laid down by J. Vos at the navy yard at Amsterdam, Netherlands on 3 September 1844, launched on 2 December 1847, renamed as floating battery Pollux in 1859, displacement 1.861 tons, dimensions 48 (load line) x 14,4 (inner hull) x 5,7 (fore)-6,2 (aft) x 6,6 (hold below upper deck ) metres and an armament of 38 (4-20”grenade guns, 20 long 30pd guns, 12-medium 30pd guns and 2 long 30 pd guns)-44 guns. Docked as the Pollux on 30 August 1859, undocked on 20 September 1859 and finally broken up.
2. Sumatra also called Sumatraan, ‘kuil’corvette, on stocks at the navy yard at Rotterdam, Netherlands by C.J. Glavimans on 26 October 1843, launched on 18 May 1848, transferred to the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands on 28 August, there docked and coppered 9-23 October, commissioned on 1 May 1849, burned off Kema, Celebes on 16 May 1854, displacement 942 tons and as dimensions 39,5 (waterline) x 12,00 (inner hull) 12,30 x 5,00 (fore)-5,40 (aft) and a hold of 6,2 metres and an armament of 26 guns.
3. Laid down at the navy yard at Vlissingen, Netherlands on 29 April 1850, launched 1 July 1850, stricken in 1865, dimensions 24,00 x 6,70 x 2,50 metres, a displacement of 137 tons displacement and an armament of 1 gun.
