Condemned French 170 tons gunboat Tromblon used target according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1899 no. 1

An item reported that the condemned French 170 tons gunboat Tromblon was used as a target for a coast battery at Toulon. The French minister of navy Lockroy was present when this happened. The tug Utile towed the Tromblon to a distance of 4-5 kilometres form the coast line when the battery Peyras fired at her with 24cm Melinit shells. The first shot hit her fore, obviously was she afterwards lying fore deeper in the water. The eight shell hitting her aft caused her sinking.
