An item reported that the last two years England and her colonies make all efforts to improve the defence of the British coal stations and arsenals outside Europe. The defence of Trincomalee was completed and consisted of 17,5cm and 23cm muzzle loading guns and a modern battery quick firing guns. Colombo was on short notice to be armed with several 15cm breech loading guns.
